Help Needed For Anniversary Celebration

Rainelle Mayor Andrea J. “Andy” Pendleton invites everyone to join the ad hoc 100th Anniversary Celebration committee.

Rainelle was incorporated on April 25, 1913.

“Rainelle’s very beginning was based on optimism about the future,” Mayor Andy Pendleton said.  “We had good times and are now coming out of some tough times with a renewed spirit of hope about our future.”

“Our town was “built to carry on” founder John Raines said,” Pendleton said.  “Let’s show our selves and the world that on the 100th anniversary, we are still carrying on.”

The Rainelle Area Planning Commission and the Town of Rainelle are calling on volunteers who want to help celebrate the town’s centennial to form an ad hoc committee.

“The more volunteers, the more ideas, the more ways we can celebrate our town,” Pendleton said.

“We have much to celebrate about our past and our future,” Pendleton said.  For example, she suggested that businesses, churches, civic organizations, governmental units and individuals might want to emphasize their origins.

Beginning with days of celebration on April 25-27, 2013, the anniversary will be celebrated throughout 2013.

Activities and the celebration’s theme will be decided by volunteers.

“Our industrial heritage of timber and coal and of course the railroads are obvious areas to remember and celebrate,” Pendleton said.  She listed many other possibilities, such as old fashioned days, tours of historic buildings including waking tours of the Sears kit homes, a golf tournament, bike rides, walk & run competitions, geo-caching, parades and reunions.
